THE 5Rs THAT WILL HELP IN PROPER WASTE MANAGEMENT

What is Waste Management? In simplest terms, waste management is the collection, transportation, and disposal of garbage and other waste products. Every year, landfills in Uganda are filled with so much waste approximately 139.6 million tons of waste. The most significant type of waste that ends up in landfills is food. Aside from economic losses, food waste is also a producer of greenhouse gases. The second-largest type of waste that is found in landfills is plastic. Plastic waste contributes greatly to climate change and poses a critical threat to pollution, biodiversity, and human health. While some types of plastic waste can’t be recycled such as single-use plastic bags and straws, most we toss can actually be recycled or reused. The 5 Rs in Waste Management As sensible dwellers of the Earth, we are responsible for managing our waste sustainably and protecting the environment. The relationship between Poverty and Environment

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ENVIRONMENT AND POVERTY We live in an unequal world, where the lack of food and other necessities is a symptom of deeper systemic issues. Attempts to solve global environmental challenges must consider the nature and scale of human need around the world. Climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation, pollution, and other aspects of global environmental change are not only environmental problems; they are also economic and social ones. From an environmental perspective, both poverty and unsustainable patterns of production and consumption are key drivers of environmental degradation. At the same time, environmental degradation and climate change can drive poverty. While there is no easy solution, poverty and the environment must be addressed together. In some communities environment has really contributed to the gross poverty rates hence dictating the living standards of people.   TECHNOLOGY'S ROLE IN THE PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT The planet is changing. It’s getting warmer, for example  look what has been happening in the European  part of the world and as this happens, we are changing too. We have to adapt our lifestyles and our habits to reduce carbon in the planet’s atmosphere and prevent runaway climate change that could threaten the ultimate existence of a habitable planet called Earth. In this article, we look at some of the ways technology is helping us to adapt. Because of our high resource lifestyles and global economic structure, it is difficult for us to make the necessary changes needed to help the planet regain health. Thankfully, technology is developing fast, and we are choosing to embrace it. Renewable energy One of the biggest challenges facing the planet in our lifetime is the  changing climate . Although the planet’s climate is known to fluctuate significantly over a period of time, studies show that since the...

The Importance of the environment to Human Life

For this implementation youth play a vital role. Young people constitute a large part of the world's population and young people will have to live longer with the consequences of current environmental decisions than will their elders. Young people can play an active role in protecting and improving the environment .   They can change their lifestyle and how it affects the environment. They can make their homes, schools and youth organizations more environmentally friendly by adopting environmentally friendly practices, recycling of different materials as well as preserving resources such as wate...
