A SHORT MBALE FLOODS CASE STUDY

Image
A SHORT MBALE FLOODS CASE STUDY A short case study about the 2022 Mbale floods that happened in Mbale on the 30th of July 2022 due to the heavy rains that ravaged some parts of Mbale. First and foremost, this had never happened in Mbale leaving the fact that heavy rains have always occurred but without causing heavy negative effects. The Eastern parts of Uganda; Kapchorwa, Bulambuli and all other upper parts neighboring Mbale City yearly receive the rains but with slight or no effects however the 2022 rains left behind the environment so much affected with heavy floods. According to different sources, the main causes or the over flooding that claimed lots of lives and massive destruction in Mbale is the misuse of the environment. People have constructed and cultivated right up to the riverbanks, and these were the most affected. Wetlands have been encroached on and that is a problem because when wetlands are intact, they at least help to control the pace of the water when it rains heav...

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF INDUSTRIALIZATION

Image
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF INDUSTRIALIZATION   Rapid industrialization has   led to severe pollution and exploitation of natural resources, causing long-term damage to the environment in Uganda There are   many positive impacts that result from the Industrial Revolution. One of the biggest negatives, however, it is   the toll that industrialization has on the environment. Natural resources are exploited, industrial city   of Jinja air is   polluted with thick smog, and the Nile   waterways are heavily polluted with oil and debris. As industrialization continues in Namanve Bugolobi, even after the Industrial Revolution happening in a quick developing Uganda, the signs of environmental damage are becoming more apparent. Several environmental disasters are occuring as a result of rapid urbanization and the pollution that industrialization brought upon the Earth.Industrialization is creating a heavily polluted earth that will devour us all if we don't sto...

BEAUTY OF ENVIRONMENT

Image
BEAUTY OF ENVIRONMENT   The environment around us is a thing of beauty. It is the natural world that surrounds us, from the hills and mountains to the oceans and lakes. The beauty of the environment is something that we often take it for granted, but it is something that is essential to our lives for it plays a vital role. The beauty of the environment is not just in its physical form, but also in the life that it supports. The animals, plants, and other living things that call the environment home are all part of the beauty that surrounds us. Without the environment, life as we know it would not exist. One of the most beautiful aspects of the environment is its diversity. There are so many different types of landscapes, from deserts to forests to oceans, and each one has its own unique beauty. The colors, shapes, and textures of the environment are all part of what makes it so beautiful. The beauty of the environment can also be found in the way it changes over time. The...

THE FLOODY AND STORMY KAMPALA DAYS

Image
THE FLOODY AND STORMY KAMPALA DAYS Everything gets a setback in Kampala whenever there is a down pour as different roads get flooded with water, some residential areas become filled with the brown muddy water hence sterilizing the day to day lifestyles of  some of the Kampala residents.  The problem of floods in Kampala is likely to even increase if Kampala and it's residents don't believe in the reality of what the environment can cause. The environment can be a great friend if respected but however when disrespected, it's wrath is costly. The persistent existence of floods in Kampala during rainy seasons shall lead to the outbreak of other problems for example contaminated water that shall have a threat on the health of Kampala residents. This is because they are at major risk of drinking polluted water because when there is  flooding. With freshwater becoming polluted due to poor sewage and sanitation systems, there’s a growing increase in diseases like dysentery and...

ENVIRONMENT REHABILITATION

Image
ENVIRONMENT REHABILITATION The objective of conducting environmental rehabilitation is to ensure that all environmental aspects required for eventual mine closure or to minimize ongoing environmental liabilities are adequately addressed before reclamation activities on mining sites are completed especially in sand mining areas around lake Victoria, stone query on foot hills of mountain Elgon, gold mines in Buhweju and Mubende and the like. This article develops principles of environmental rehabilitation. Key issues include the following. Rehabilitation means restoring the previous condition. Whether or not to restore is not a technical but a value judgement. It is subject to adopting the sustainability ethic. If the ethic is followed under rule of law then rehabilitation must be done always to ‘the high standard’ which means handing down unimpaired environmental function and no extra land management. The elements of the former condition that it is intended to restore must be specif...

MY RESPONSIBILITY, YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

Image
MY RESPONSBILITY, YOUR RESPONSBILYTY The environment is the natural world that surrounds us, and it is one of the most important things that we have. The environment provides us with the resources that we need to survive, including air, water, and food. However, in recent years, we have been taking the environment for granted, and our actions have been damaging the environment in ways that we may not even realize. Therefore, it is important for us to protect the environment so that we can continue to live and thrive on this planet. There are several ways that we can protect the environment, and each of these ways is important in its own right. One of the most important things that we can do to protect the environment is to reduce our carbon footprint. Our carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that we emit into the atmosphere, and these gases contribute to climate change. There are several ways that we can reduce our carbon footprint. ...

WASTE WATERS AND THEIR IMPACT ON HUMAN NATURE

WASTE WATERS AND THEIR IMPACT ON HUMAN NATURE 1. Introduction 1.1. Wastewater(s) in a rapidly urbanizing world Globally the majority of people live in cities, and as such the sustainability of urban service delivery is of prime importance (Childers et al. Citation2019). Historically, the Global North has opted to centralize wastewater infrastructure, often combining different types of wastes and looking to treat and dilute the wastewater to minimize immediate human and environmental health concerns. The collection and treatment of blackwater (human excreta and toilet water) has enormous health benefits; this is why equitable access to sanitation is a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (i.e. SDG6, target 6.3). Sewer systems which move waste underground and away from people and, under the best of circumstances, towards a functional wastewater treatment plant are considered the ‘Gold Standard’ by many, including city residents. Storm water (i.e. water flowing in cities as...
